ScaleModelWorld 2019

Ian Tranters exquisite REME Workshop Libya 1942, in 1/76 scale!

580 Modellers had a most enjoyable weekend at ScaleModelWorld in Telford during early November.  We had a record number of exhibitors (12 in all) and this included two recent additions to the crew, Marc Bruton and Rob Hambridge.  Both had attended a couple of shows during the past months and decided to 'take the plunge.  They were undoubtedly worthy contributors to the table and w  We are glad to say they thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and plan to be back with us next year.

Foxy and Choppa assisted with the set-up on the Friday by manning the doors to Hall 3 and ended up on a 'double shift' as their relief failed to show.  Choppa was subsequently in the news again as he appears on page 7 of Issue 6 of the 2019 IPMS magazine, which was dedicated to SMW.  He is surrounded by a crowd of 'luminaries' listening intently to some guff.

Some of our number were confident enough to enter the competition and most saw success.  This included Rob Cookson who entered Class 12 (Aircraft - 1/71 scale and larger, SD) and gained a silver for his Airfix 1/48 Walrus, which had been repaired following its damage in transporatation to Southwell in October.  Ian Tranter entered his REME Workshop Libya 1942, based on the (very) old Airfix Matador in Class 35 (Military Vehicles - 1/72 and smaller, ASC, V, S, SD) and gained a Commended in a numerous entry.  Rob Cookson also showed his versatility by gaining a Commended in Class 86 (Diorama - SciFi, Fantasy) with "Cornered...!"  Finally Huw Morgan, in his 'SIG 144' alter ego should also receive an honourable mention as the recipient of the Japanese Aviation SIG 'Honour' Award for his Lockheed PC3 Orion.
